The Jake Harold 100 page challenge!

Created on: 2008-05-08 0 Comments | Add new comment

I’d just like to say HI to all the people who’ve picked up an issue of Tards at the Camden comics stall, ran by London underground comics. The fresh faced creators attempting to revolutionize the British underground comics scene. Also anyone kicking around bristol this weekend could pick up a copy of tards form their stall at the bristol comic expo! (their website is SHITE but its a big event. it seems their sinst a single compitant web designer in this industry) good times. (and bad times)

ok, its nearing the end of the school year! there’s only weeks to go, only weeks left for everybody in my year to finish their FMP's (final major projects) these projects are huge! if you want the big marks, you give yourself a big project. And I’ve over faced myself somewhat.

I’m not gonna say much about it yet, but I’m working on a graphic novel, a big'un. I expected the story I wanted to tell to take about fifty pages, and I had 12 weeks to do it... this seemed easy as pie! i mean it took tards issue one, five weeks to make, and that was a 38 page story. This seemed a doddle. Until i wrote it... as with each issue of Tards i aim to make it 20 pages long... and end up doubling it. heck Tards issue two is in two parts the story is so long!

What I’m trying to say is this novel is going to be.. ONE HUNDRED pages long. exactly... I hope. one hundred flipping pages! I’ve half done about 30 of them so far. its taken seven weeks to write and do the page layouts. now it just needs drawing. 32 days left=3 pages a day! THREE PAGES A DAY?!

"Jake, your killing yourself." I just thought you ought to know what I was upto as i haven’t posted ina while. wish me luck!

Do somthing amazing

Greetings to all my Tards! ONLY DO THIS ONCE!!

http://www.eagleawards.co.uk/vote.asp

Oliver and Lowrance of modern monstrosity are up for a pretty prestigious award. and your vote would make all the difference here.
simply type you're email, and scroll down to "favourate black and white comic (British)" and vote "TALES FROM THE FLAT"
then go to the bottom and submit it? it would help alot.

if you've already done it, thanks a bundle! but only do it once! they track IP's and so on so don't even use alt emails

much bum

The weekend before the weekend before the UK web and mini comic Thing, was the most intense drawing experience I’ve ever had! It was fri-tue was spent locked up in my room with Oliver “tales form the flat” Lamden, both of us finishing off our comics. In my corner was Tards issue two, and in olives tales from the flat issue seven. We both had about 5 pages left to draw, and we still had to letter the whole thing… I also had to colour in Flats front cover and first page… it got to Monday night and we were nearing the finish line, Oliver had stayed days longer than he had hoped and we had to get the discs off to the printers sharpish! But early Tuesday morning we hurriedly drove to the post box outside my college, he got dumped at the train station and I collapsed and didn’t wake up for a week. And that’s the story of how Tards issue two was finished!!!

now heres some nice artwork...

Well the Thing is...

I’ve written this Blog about five times now. Each time ive messed up one way or another and the blog never made it to your eyes. ONE LAST TRY!

The UK web and mini comics thing took place on the 22nd march 2008. Haroldinium comics (which is what I am) took residence on table 27! To be honest I was pretty annoyed with myself at this convention as from the off I left my compare at the stall and went around buying stuff. This isn’t a good idea as you miss out on the first run of customers possibly looking to ask you about your comic. Apparently this girl was looking at my portfolio for ages and my mate didn’t know what to say to her. Naturally I was kicking myself for not being there to flirt my balls off. Anyway

I spent WAY TO MUCH on comics… seriously, too much. I’m still surrounded my spoils with many unread books to go! But I must say one of my favorite purchases was the internet extravaganza that is “Dr McNinja”  <<<this comic is amazing!

the convention also saw the release of TARDS ISSUE TWO and a handful of people were good enough to pick it up. It was such a great feeling having people come back from the last convention were I was selling issue one and buy issue two! So thanks to the three people who did that

I just abut made back my table costs, but spent twice as much on comics and beer. But all-round I had a great time, it was the best summer ever. The end.

id also like to add last night i started my first 24 hour comics, and i've used it to pay homage to the guy who's 24 hour comics i've read most of... Dan lester, in "everything you ever wanted to know about dan lester (but were to afraid to ask)"

Cover story

Created on: 2008-02-21 0 Comments | Add new comment

Presenting the front
cover of issue two part one. It’s all dark and cool! What’s better still it’s a
wrap around!! Usually all this means is the front and back cover are one big
image that wraps around the book, but seeing as this is a two-parter, I’ve stepped
things up a bit and front and back covers to parts one and two are one huge
wrap around cover!! And fit together ass illustrated below

Ok that’s all a bit
geeky to get exited about that, but whatever—if your looking for a progress
report I have the equivalent of… 4 pages left to do? Yeah, about that much. Also
I need to letter it all… and make the fun games page… and compile all the pages…
but hey! That should all be done in a cuppla weeks (bollocks I have no time
left at all)

As I mentioned before
the next con I’m attending is the uk
web and mini comics thing in London.
So to pick up my latest book, please come along.

More desk than bedroom

This weekend i do the unthinkable... I disengage form the internet for a whole weekend! Yeah, my tiny cavernous bedroom is being overhauled by the loving parents and redecorated. one thing this does tell me, is that when i finally leave for uni next year, their less likely to turn my room into a walk in wardrobe (as they often like to fantasies)

thats a drawing board my grandads had since before the idea of me existing came to pass. when i first saw it, i almost came in my pants. as you can see, its well big. like seriously. super big. and heavy. and wooden. and amazing. oh and I've recently purchased this...

Once again, when it came in the post, i almost came in my pants. for years I've longed after a tablet of this quality, and when my shitty old one went to off to silicone heaven i decided to get myself this wacom.

so yeah, a pretty close to orgasm week for me, oh i guess you might want this...

TARDS ISSUE TWO UPDATE--
Going nowhere slowly... nah its almost done, I've actually been closer to finishing than i thourght. this new drawing environment should bring in a new speedy age of comic drawingness.

love Jake

So i guess its 2008 now

a pinup i drew of Toby, from "tales from the flat" drawn with my new pens what i got for x-mas.

yeah another year happened. and I'll be honest: 2007 has got the be the best year of my life, learning to drive, getting over ex-girlfriends,  starting college, meeting new friends, getting a new job that I'm really happy with, starting a live radio/podcast with my Scottish friend kami... oh and that Tards thing... :P

It just makes me think what can 2008 bring? hopefully a few more issues of Tards! Oooh also, a secret side project! a work in progress previously titled "Rindhouse" as a test name. and has now been given the new test title "Jake Harold and Friends" if your a reader of oliver "tales form the flat" Lambdens blog, then you'd of seen him mention this already...

...this new Haroldinium publication is a funbag collection of 3 mad tales of general madness. The aim of the comic is to promote collaboration between artists in the small press comic industry,  "When Vampire Zombies Attack High-School Cheerleaders" is the primary tale in the collection, written by myself, and penciled by Mr. Lambden, then inked by me.  I'm hope'n to get Dan "Monkeys Might Puke" lester in on this... (who makes a fucking hilarious comic-- check it out!) I'm also working on something for his comic, but i dunno if i can talk about that.

so I'm guessing this year will be full of wonderful conventions, where i get to meet all you little tards! and sell you my funny books! the first convention is in London, the UK WEB AND MINI COMICS THING... or just Thing for short... heres some info on the Thing

22
March 2008 - Great Hall, Queen Mary University - Mile
End - London - UK.

So yeah, if you can get there, please do! but thats about all for this post! for more info on Tards or just to shoot the breeze... get in touch at the usual email- capspac@gmail.com

With the Tards second
convention under their collective belt, they can only look forward... months
and months forward to The Thing in March.
yeah, Leeds this Saturday was the last convention for a while... witch is just
as well as Tards is SOLD OUT (that’s right, I’ve sold all but 5 copy’s witch I’m
keeping for myself for the sake of it) so a big thank you to everyone who
picked up a first edition of issue 1, please let me know what ya’ think. I will
be reprinting a heap of issue 1's when I get issue 2 out in March. I’m actually
hoping to have 4 books out for March, so I’ve got alot of work to do...

Leeds was great,
especially for its first year. The organizers were so humble! These people even made free cakes and
cookies! And we all know Jake loves plenty of cakes and cookies...

it was nice to see some people ive bumped into before. The "web comics" people were there ninja bunny,
little terrors etc
I also met the makers of mythos from the podcast comic
book outsiders
(I’m the special guest on there next episode :P)

To close, I’ll leaves
you with this video. Made by some kids who wanted to make themselves look cool

Sadly it didn’t work

They only got my name wrong once.

Those of you from round my way, may of noticed this on page 22 of one of their local papers...

how cool is that!! there is alot of Simpson's references... but meh. the page also mentions Lowrance and Oliver, the makers of 'tales form the flat. along side a mention of banal pig... i thourght mentioning them side by side would be funny...  (in joke)
a little hidden easter egg in the page, is that it looks like i'm wearing the same shirt as the groaning...

london expo - the tards are released!!

Created on: 2007-10-21 1 Comments | Add new comment

A spanktacular thank you to absolutely everyone who entertained even a friendly smile at this weekend's London MEDIA (not fucking anime) expo!
Seriously thank you guys so much for checking out the website.

Every purchase was so greatly valued, and I hope you all love the sketches I did with each issue. :P  I'm now sitting here on my good friend Oliver "Tales From The Flat" Lambden's bed- watching him watching the special features on his Halo 3... The pizza isn't here yet, but all I've eaten today is 2 cans of Fosters and a bottle of Fanta Lemon. But that's not eating.

The Saturday had a lot more of a buzz than the Sunday...
...
Ooops, got distraced by Halo. So yeah, Sunday was a little deader, but still an amazing day for tards! Just wanna say hi to Stew of SFW. I've been having ideas for your comic. Email me!

...Bloody Halo! Also Andrew Macay, hope you liked the book in the end. We were sat right smack next to the ever sexy Etherington brothers, a deliciously incestious display of creative majesty! Look, here's a picture of Rob, the word maker, holding his sketch of him as the evil tenticle from the old point and click game "Day of the Tenticle" which I'm planning on mirroring in a game I'm working on at college, but that's for later...
mad fucker

There was a gay WoW convention next door as well, so much money gets pointlessly thrown at that crap, they had a hall near the size of our whole expo JUST for a shotty card game... whatever.

I'm gonna post this now before I fall to dead. Just wanted to have some words here for you wonderful people who got on the site the instant you read! Emails of opinions and comments are supremely appreciated!!!

Love and stuff!
~Jake

what a postbag
That’s right bitches and hoe’s, tards should be at the Birmingham international comics show…

Should?

Well yes, anyone who was at the modernmonstrosity table at the midlands expo in telford last month should of overheard me chuntering about how crap printers are. Tards was supposed to be out then…

And through a supreme lack of communication and so on, it still might not even be out for Birmingham! (although it really should, so still come looking for it)

After a series of drawbacks and delays I was confident tards was going to be in my hands by this Monday (today) but sadly its all gone to pot… WHY?

CAUSE OF THE BLOODY POSTIE STRIKE!

Stay tuned…
